Catell Ronca Profile
BY: Catell Ronca | December 16, 2009
Catell’s use of striking color and naive style invites the viewer to engage on a direct and emotional level with her work. Her use of bold shapes and colors, patterns and hand-rendered letters are inspired by international vernacular folklore. Her travels around the globe are in fact a vital source of inspiration. She also loves observing people on the streets and markets of London’s multi-ethnic neighborhoods (and listening to the various accents). Catell’s characters are gentle and playful, a little bit peculiar and never lack a subtle sense of humor.
Catell was born and raised in Switzerland and lives in London. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in London and works for a variety of international clients in book publishing, design, editorial and children’s books. Catell has worked with Royal Mail and created a set of special postage stamps, depicting Britain’s multicultural society and cuisine.
